It’s one of the most common questions we get at our Fred Astaire Dance Studios locations: How long will it take me to become a good dancer? Unfortunately, there is no simple answer. It really depends on you and what you want to accomplish. One thing is for certain though — at Fred Astaire Dance Studio, our proven three-tiered dance curriculum ensures you’ll be well on your way to dancing like a pro by the end of your very first lesson!
Know yourself!
Knowing yourself is probably the first step to answering this very personal question. Anyone can turn on some music, then step and clap to the beat. That’s dancing and it doesn’t take a lot of time or money to figure out. Clarifying your goals is the most important step of all in your journey toward dancing well.
Why do you want to dance? Do you have a special occasion coming up, like the first dance at your wedding? Do you want to enter the fast-paced, wonderful world of competitive ballroom dancing? Maybe you just want to feel more comfortable on the dance floor and learn something new! Whatever your answer is, Fred Astaire Dance Studios can help you with it. Our Wedding Dance Instruction Program will give you the confidence and skill to show off your style on the dance floor for your special day.
If you just want to have fun with your partner or you want to consider competitive dancing, our three-tiered program of regularly scheduled Private Lessons, plus Group Lessons and Practice Parties will ensure that you learn as much as possible in the shortest amount of time. The Fred Astaire Trophy System will help you track your progress and stay motivated. We have our Beginner and Social Foundation Programs for newer students. You can move on to Bronze if you want to comfortably command any dance floor, to any music, with any partner. If you really want to kick it up, move on over to our Silver and Gold levels and really fine-tune your skills. No matter what you’re after, we have a program to suit your needs and the teaching philosophy at every Fred Astaire Dance Studios is always the same: Learning how to ballroom dance is always fun!
How much time do you have?
The more honest you are with yourself and your instructor about how much time you can really devote, the better off you both will be. If you really just want to learn to tango and care nothing about learning any other steps, let your instructor know. He or she will give you the best options to suit your goals. Your instructors are there to help you reach your ultimate goal and they will help you along the way. Which leads us to our next point…
Do you have a top-quality instructor? This is important for obvious reasons. Fred Astaire Dance Studios instructors are gifted dance educators. They must become certified in the Fred Astaire Curriculum. On top of that, many have degrees in Fine Arts and are award-winning professional dancers.
Will you take the first step? It’s as simple as visiting any Fred Astaire Dance Studios location near you for a visit. Many offer a free introductory lesson with no partner needed! Doesn’t everybody have time for that?
