As we celebrate this Fourth of July we celebrate dance, and all the forms that it takes in this truly unique melting pot that we call the United States of America. With people from all corners of the world coming together to form our beautiful country, it is no surprise that our dance forms are as varied as our communities. So, no matter how you celebrate this special holiday, consider taking a moment with us here at Fred Astaire Dance Studios to take a look at dancing across our great country on this most patriotic of holidays.
Light Up the Night Sky
There’s just something about sparklers that can bring out the child in all of us! Who can resist their glow, lighting up the night on the Fourth of July? The Chinese are widely credited with inventing fireworks. It is thought that the ancient Greeks and the Romans used fireworks to some degree during battles. So, the next time you’re tempted to run through the July night clutching a sparkler in each hand, remember you’re firing off a bit of history.
History and Community Come Together
The original 13 colonies are the cradle of our independence, and as you might expect, they have some of the longest running Independence Day celebrations. The town of Bristol in Rhode Island has been holding organized Fourth of July celebrations since 1785. The 2.5-mile parade includes a marching fife and drum group.
Lining Up to Celebrate Independence Day
What could be more American than a line dance? How about a line dance set to the song “4th of July” by Shooter Jennings! This dance was featured at the Mishnock Country Dance Weekend.
America’s Party
The Fourth of July is America’s party and what better way to end our holiday celebration than with a video from the semi-finals of “Dancing With the Stars – Juniors.” As Mackenzie Ziegler and Sage Rosen and Miles Brown and Rylee Arnold perform a duo dance show us, the Fourth of July really is a “Party in the USA.”
