While we wait patiently for the fall return of “Dancing With the Stars” dance fans have some hope on the horizon. Network Fox announced the return of “So You Think You Can Dance.” The reality competition hit is set to return this summer for season 16 on Monday, June 10.
‘LUCKY’ FOR US — ANOTHER MOVIE MUSICAL
It looks like another movie musical is going to make its way to the big screen. Variety is reporting that the Broadway hit “Guys and Dolls” will get the silver screen remake treatment, following the success of other movie adaptations like “Les Miserables,” “Chicago,” and “Hairspray.” The original starred Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, and Jean Simmons. What would be your dream casting for the remake?
IT’S AS EASY AS ONE, TWO, THREE
Well, another month and another viral dance craze storms the internet. This one is called the “Triangle Dance Challenge” and you guessed it: it requires three people. The dance requires some pretty serious focus and coordination, but it’s simple enough that just about anyone can do it with a little practice.
BREAKDANCING BREAKING NEW GROUND?
“And, the gold medal in Olympic Breakdancing goes to…” Yep! You read that right. Breakdancing is poised to become an Olympic sport, at least if French officials have their way. According to the Los Angeles Times, the organizing committee for the 2024 Summer Games in Paris has included men’s and women’s “breaking” on a list of competitions it wants to add to the program, along with skateboarding, surfing, and sport climbing.
And finally, in China square dancing has a totally different meaning. Every day groups of mostly middle-aged women and pensioners meet in public “squares” to dance for fitness and socializing. Of course at Fred Astaire Dance Studio, we’ve known about the multiple benefits of dancing for years.
